The product initially contained cocaine from coca leaves and caffeine from kola nuts which together acted as a stimulant.

The coca and kola inspired the name coca cola. In 1889, the formula and brand were sold for $2300 to Asa Griggs Candler who incorporated the Coca-Cola company in 1892.

By 1895, the drink was being sold in every state in the region. In 1919, the company was sold to Ernest Woodruff’s Trust company of Georgia.

The company then expanded and made various acquisitions like minute maid in 1960, Columbia Pictures, the movie studio in 1982.

The Coca-Cola company is public company that trades its shares on the New York stock exchange. This means the company has very many shareholders.
