Looking for an honest transcribio review? Perhaps you have read countless transcribio reviews online and still not found the answers you are looking for.
Well you can now sit tight and worry no more since you have come to the right place.
For some time now, freelancing has become one of the most common side gigs on the internet.
So much so that it has become the sole breadwinner for some homes in these tough times.
Freelancing can take on various categories of jobs for example writing, designing, development of software, testing apps, surveys and many other gigs.
For writers, the jobs can include creating content, blogging, copywriting and article writing in various niches.
This is my category of freelancing since I started out as a freelancer writer on Fiverr so I often take on jobs in this area.
Of recent, I came across an advert claiming that freelancers were required for a certain gig.
Responding to such adverts isn’t my forte. However, it was an opportunity with the potential to make me some extra money. I checked it out and it was about transcription.
At that moment, I had no idea about how transcription works.
As a writer, I made some research about the opportunity before I even signed up.
At the moment, the platform that offered the jobs in the beginning known as Transcribio seems to have the number of freelancers it needs.
Therefore, the call for applications has been closed.
However, I can share with you what I have learnt about the company in this time.

What is transcription?
Transcription, commonly referred to as audio transcription, involves listening to the content of a recorded audio visual file and turning it into written text.
The definition also covers video and audio files. This is because you could be given either an audio or a video file to transcribe.
How does transcription work?
Transcription lets you (the transcriber) write down text that you have been listening to from an audio for a certain price.
The audios can be from seminars, lectures, or just a simple podcast.
The person that needs the audios transcribed gives them to you so you can listen and write down everything the way it has been said in the audio.
After coming up with a complete document in the preferred format whether PDF, word or any other format, you are then tasked with delivering the completed document to your client.
In most cases, you will come across companies that have transcription software to ease the process for their transcribers.
These gigs are good if you have good listening and writing skills.
An added advantage can be experience in a particular field the audios or seminars where recorded.

For example, some transcription gigs require you to listen and write down recordings of entire seminars in different fields of education or industries in the economy.
According to the prices found on Fiverr, these gigs are priced starting at $0.20 per minute recorded for clear audio to $0.50 per minute.
These fees are determined basing on the number of speakers and audio quality.
On average, it might take you about 4-5 hours to transcribe an hour of audio.
Types of transcriptionists
Transcription can be done in two ways.
1. Specialist transcription.
Here, you are required to have some formal training in the field you want to focus on.
For example, students within the legal field may choose to transcribe content that is specific to the legal field only.
This means that you cannot take on jobs that are in different fields such as medicine and business.
Specialist transcription can at times require a transcription certificate as clients would want to know your level of expertise.
2. General transcription.
Here, the transcriber can take on jobs from various clients from different fields.
They are not limited to a specific field. They can transcribe everything from medical files to legal files.
They can also take on research work from all fields of their own choosing.
This type of transcription is the most common amongst transcribers.
How is audio transcribed?
Even with the basic tips of transcribing audio visual files, there are some guidelines you should follow to improve the quality of a transcribed document.
With some research, these are the most essential guidelines for you to create good quality text from transcription.
You have to ensure that the work in the completed document is the same as the content in the audio visual files.
You have to make sure to include all data talked about in the files without missing anything.
2. Maintaining the language.
Some sites will tell you that it is important for you to come up with the text in English as most transcription companies offer English jobs.
However, you might come across jobs on freelancing platforms that need you to transcribe audio visual content in another language.
What is important is for you to maintain the language that is being spoken in the audio.
3. Do not paraphrase.
It is important for you to type the information as you hear it.
The requirement is that you express the message the same way it was said in the audio visual files.
It is not necessary for you to express the same message using different words as it changes the content of the message in the transcribed audio.
4. Do not add additional information.
At times, you may choose a transcription job because of your expertise in that field.
You should keep in mind that all you need to do is to write what you hear.
You are not required to add any more information just because you think that they left out something.
Do not make the mistake of thinking you are imparting your knowledge on “students”.
What skills should a transcriber have?
Every freelancing gig requires you to have training or skills for you to excel.
In the case of transcription, these are the skills that you must have so that you get the most out of transcription.
1. Must be a good listener.
Transcribing involves listening and writing what you from a recorded audio visual file.
It is very important for you to have excellent listening skills so that you can produce good quality work.
2. Have fast typing speed.
Since you have to change text into speech with transcription, you have to be fast in typing.
Since you are listening to pre-recorded files, you might get the opportunity to play back to areas that weren’t quite clear to you.
It depends on the type of transcription you are doing.
For example, if you have been to a court room before, you may have noticed someone with a typewriter typing everything that is said when the court is in session.
That is also transcription but you must have excellent typing speeds to execute that kind of job well.
3. Critical thinking.
This skill is essential if you are doing specialized transcription.
For example, if you are in the legal field, it is important for you to employ your legal expertise when transcribing legal files.
This could show in the jargon used in a specific field. This makes it easier to complete the gig.
You have to be able to deliver the work online. Responsibility reflects in the quality of work done on behalf of your clients.
It is important for you to follow the industry standard of 4 hours for 1 hour of transcribed text. You should also be able to deliver the work of your clients on time.
5. Comprehensive understanding of grammar and spelling in the language required.
The common language for transcription gigs is English.
You should be able to spell words well.
This makes it a bit easier for you to type out the correct words when compiling your audio.
You should also know how to correctly structure your sentences.
6. Knowledge of punctuation.
Audio files tend to run fast. For example, you must have tried writing down music lyrics as you listen to them.
The accuracy in this case is very low since the words often don’t have any meaning without the proper punctuation of the sentences.
Transcription also needs you to be really good at punctuation because it makes your work understandable and more organized to the client.
You must be willing to put in the time for the transcription to come out well.
For each hour of transcribed audio, you have to put in four hours of work.
This means that you have to be meticulous when typing out the text and this requires a lot of patience.
Essential tools for transcription
With transcription jobs, you have to own a few tools to maximize your potential for earning extra money.
For you to increase your chances to make money with this gig, you must have the tools listed below:
- Transcription software
- Foot pedal
- Word processing software
- Internet connection
Who needs transcription services?
If you are new to this field, you should know that there are a number of clients in need of this service and they include:
- Law firms, paralegals and court reporters
- Medical and health care providers
- Video production firms
- Voice over actors …. etc.
Do you need a license to become a transcriber?
No, you do not need a license to become a transcriber.
You do not need to have previous training as a transcriber to do transcription.
So long as you can type really well and use the skills I mentioned above, you are good to go.
With the insight into what transcription is and how it works, we can now move on to Transcribio.

Pros of Transcribio
- No experience needed. You do not have to boast transcription experience to get a job with this platform. So long as you have the basic skills in typing and the use of English, you are good to go.
- Short waiting period. The platform has a swift application process for new transcribers. It has a very short waiting program with confirmation usually done in 1-2 working days.
- Access from across the entire globe. When the advert was run, they invited applicants from across the globe. This means that anyone can apply for this opportunity.
Cons of Transcribio
- Long waiting period to confirm payments. This is a big issue for me. Freelancers need some extra money from their exploits as quickly as possible. However, you will find a lot of reviews online where freelancers were not happy with how long it took for their hard earned money to reflect in their bank account.
- Delayed payments. Payments are only processed at the beginning of the month. This means that you have to wait for the money whenever the month begins. The waiting period is even longer if you do not make above $50 in a month.
Conclusion: Transcribio Review- Make $36/Hour with EASY Online Job for Everyone
Is Transcribio legit? I do not advise you to go for this platform. At the moment, they are no longer receiving applications for some unknown reason.
They could be a source of income if you are looking at the long run.
However, you have to remember that whenever there is a large saturation of users, the application tests are made difficult.
For those that would like to make a decent amount of money doing transcription jobs then I would recommend you join Fiverr.
Fiverr will allow you to start making money with various transcription jobs on the platform and the best part is that there is no test required for you to start receiving orders for transcription services.
